Vitor Bruno, or Vítor Bruno Clara Santos Motas Fernandes, which is his full name, has been fired. Porto, who do not aspire to become an “ex” big club, had enough of their 42-year-old manager after the 3-1 loss to Gil Vicente at the Estádio Cidade de Barcelos on Sunday.
The loss to Vicente was the club’s third defeat in a row, it was the famous last straw for the management of the club, who already last week started the search for a replacement. But previous attempts at exactly that have failed financially.
A few hours after the game, Porto announced that manager Vito Bruno would leave the club with immediate effect.
The 42-year-old took over Porto this summer from Sérgio Conceição, who is now head coach of AC Milan. But the stay ended after six months.
In the Portuguese top flight, Porto are only four points behind leaders Sporting. In the Europa League, they park in place 18.
A Bola writes that Porto is looking towards Norway and the Eliteserien, among other things. Without having been able to confirm who it might be, Rosenborg head coach Alfred Johansson is mentioned. Porto are said to want to go young still, but it is questionable when it comes down to it that Johansson, who is only 34 years old, has too little experience for it to be relevant when it comes down to it.
There is also talk of bringing back Julen Lopetegui who was just sacked from West Ham.
There was also talk before Christmas that Porto were in talks with Vítor Pereira who had three successful seasons at the club, but they waited too long. Pereira famously became manager of Wolverhampton just before Christmas.
