Then came the confirmation of Liverpool’s second exit. This is the summer where both Mo Salah and Andy Robertson give up the key card to Anfield. On Thursday, Liverpool announced that the Scottish football terrier will leave the club at the end of the season. Not many minutes later, the first tributes came.

Joe Gomez clearly has a lot on his mind. Since 2017, the two defenders have shared joys and sorrows on the training field, match arena – and in the car.

-Stability at the highest level over the past nine years. You have performed at all levels and won everything. Your standards, your mentality, and your personality have meant so much to all of us. You have given absolutely everything for this club and for everyone in it. The drives together to training, your voice around the training track and sharing the track with you is something I will always be grateful for. You know how much I and my family will miss you and your family. But for now, I can’t wait to see you being praised and enjoying the latest,” Gomez writes on his Instagram profile.

Robertson, who was signed from Hull City in 2017, has won two Premier League titles, a Champions League, the FA Cup and two League Cups, as well as the FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Community Shield during his time at Liverpool.

It is a giant who is now stepping down this summer after having written himself well into Liverpool history.
