One of the big profiles during the European Championship last summer had every opportunity to choose a transfer to one of the big clubs. The Spanish international loyally chose to stay with Athletic Club. This summer, the situation is different, Chelsea, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Arsenal have all seen the opportunity to move forward to sign one of the most exciting wingers in Europe. Now it is reported that one of the London clubs is in pole position.
Nico Williams has a buyout clause of around €60 million, according to Footballtransfers, Arsenal are in the driving seat to sign the 22-year-old.
According to Spanish sources, Arsenal are willing to give Williams a five-year contract with a £200,000 weekly wage, which the agent has signalled will be accepted if Williams opts for north London and the Premier League. Arsenal are in the strong position with several solidly paid players on their way out: Kieran Tierney (£110,000 per week), Thomas Partey (£200,000 per week) and Jorginho (£110,000 per week). This leaves room for £420,000 in the salary budget and room to give Williams the giant salary.
There should be no financial obstacles to Williams choosing Arsenal, now the latter part of the season must end in a way that makes Williams see Arsenal as a candidate for the biggest titles.
