In the last week before the transfer window closed, Andy Robertson was suddenly elevated to the headlines in English sports newspapers. A Premier League rival is said to have made a push to sign the Liverpool veteran, six months before the left-back is likely to walk out as a free agent.
The Athletic reported on negotiations between Tottenham and Liverpool over the signing of Andy Robertson. Tottenham desperately need to strengthen their defence, Robertson badly needed game time for Scotland’s first World Cup finals in 28 years. Nevertheless, the 32-year-old still wore the red shirt after Deadline Day. Later, Robertson himself has confirmed there were conversations.

“There was obviously interest there – there have been discussions with both clubs, but the decision was that I wanted to stay. I stayed at Liverpool and that was the decision that was made. I’ve been committed to Liverpool for the last eight and a half or nine years now, and I’ll be committed until I’m no longer needed,” Robertson said, according to Goal.
So does an extension await this summer, or is Robertson no longer needed at Anfield?
Caughtoffside’s sources “close to the agent industry” report that in March it will enter a defining phase, where Robertson’s upcoming season will be decided, whether there will be an extension or contract expiration. Liverpool are not actively pushing for Robertson to change clubs, but are believed to be open if it ensures Robertson can maintain regular first-team football elsewhere, it is reported.
According to Football-Insider’s sources , Tottenham are still eager to sign Andy Robertson, despite their failed attempt in January. Now Spurs are aiming to tempt the Scot to London – if they ensure survival in the Premier League.
