Toney left Brentford in August 2024 and signed for Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli in a transfer worth £40 million. He became one of the highest-paid English players in the world with a reported salary of £400,000 per week, and has more than justified his salary with an impressive tally of 41 goals in 59 games. – In addition, he has created a great Instagram profile where he travels around and looks at exotic animals and comes up with meaningful words of wisdom.

However, the winner of the AFC Champions League is still being linked with a return to the English top division – not least with the World Cup on the horizon.
And in recent developments, it has emerged that Spurs are interested in signing Toney, having struggled with a lack of goals from their attackers. According to an article in talkSPORT, Thomas Frank is very open to a reunion. Dominic Solanke has been out with an ankle injury since August, while Mathys Tel and Randal Kolo Muani have not been reliable sources of goal, and Richarlison’s form has faded after a promising start under Frank.
The Brazilian has been a target for Al Ahli in the past, and they considered signing him for around £60m before signing Toney – but the former Everton striker rejected their approaches.
West Ham have explored an ambitious deal for Toney, but Spurs are best positioned to bring the 29-year-old back to the league.
Al Ahli believe they are hesitant to sell their star striker, but their interest in Richarlison could make it easier to arrange a deal.
“I keep coming back to Ivan Toney for Tottenham,” he said.
“You look at what he did to Thomas Frank at Brentford.
“I think he would like to go back to the Premier League, financially of course it could be a difficult deal, but it seems to me like a perfect match for Spurs, either in January or next summer.”
Frank’s Toney hint
Toney signed for Frank in 2020 when they were in the Championship, scoring 33 goals in 52 games in his first season as they were promoted via the play-offs.
He then went on to score goals in the Premier League, with 32 goals in his two full seasons and four goals in 2023/24 following his ban due to betting.
Hinting that he could bring Toney to Spurs at a recent Fan Forum in October, Frank said: “I said in a press conference the other day, if he wants to come back, he’s more than welcome.
“Of course, Ivan Toney who I coached for a few years, top player, top guy, very good striker, then we’ll see what happens in the future.”
Spurs are back in action on Saturday when they face Manchester United in the early game.
