Despite Manchester United recently signing Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig, a free agent striker is hoping to move to Old Trafford before the summer transfer window closes, according to a report. But it is unlikely that his wish will be fulfilled.

Manchester United have been looking for a top nine all summer, and on Saturday the Premier League giants finally finalized a deal for Šeško. Newcastle United were also very interested in the Slovenian striker, but it was the Red Devils who finally got the deal done, paying Leipzig a total of £73.7 million (€85.1 million, $99.1 million), including bonus schemes.

After Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo joined the Red Devils earlier this summer, Man Utd are now focused on signing a defensive midfielder and a goalkeeper.

Signing another striker this summer is not on Man Utd’s agenda, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still hoping for a move to Old Trafford, according to a report.

Several English media have reported that Calvert-Lewin has resigned his representatives and is ready to hold negotiations even with Man Utd.

The 1.88-metre tall striker is currently a free agent, having ended his partnership with Everton after the 2024/25 season.

The Sun has reported that Calvert-Lewin is “hoping for a deal with Manchester United”.

The 28-year-old English striker “will conduct his own transfer negotiations” after deciding to “get rid of” his representatives.

The headline reads: “Dominic Calvert-Lewin dismisses agent and takes personal responsibility for transfer negotiations while 28-year-old ex-Everton star seeks Man Utd transfer”.

Calvert-Lewin, who has struggled with injuries throughout his career, started 19 games and came on as a substitute seven times in the Premier League for Everton last season, scoring three goals and providing one assist during the season.

The striker has made a total of 239 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career, scoring 57 goals and providing 18 assists in the process.

Why Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Man Utd is unlikely

Now that Šeško is in the Man Utd squad, manager Amorim has three options to play as number nine, including Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

While Zirkzee’s future at Man Utd was called into question earlier this summer, speculation has calmed down and it now seems unlikely that he will leave the club.

On the other hand, Hojlund could leave Man Utd, with AC Milan interested in a loan deal for the Danish striker, according to TEAMtalk’s Italian football correspondent Rudy Galetti.

Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported on X that although Man Utd are open to letting Hojlund go, the striker himself insists on “staying” at Old Trafford.

It’s hard to imagine Man Utd signing Calvert-Lewin if Hojlund stays.

A move to Old Trafford for Calvert-Lewin “feels further away than ever”.

Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Sunderland are interested in the striker.
