Ruben Amorim’s summer needs are quite clear after the start of the season.
Sportsmole reports that Roma have made progress in their attempts to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United this summer, although there is still disagreement with the player over wages and we heard the agent of the English left winger that it was not going to happen as recently as yesterday Monday.
The Red Devils’ Premier League season kicked off on Sunday with a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford, but they can be proud of their performance.

Manager Ruben Amorim will be pleased that newcomers Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo impressed, but according to reports, he is still interested in more reinforcements.
The possibility of more signings may depend on the club’s ability to sell players first, but until now, stakeholders for players like Sancho have not been able to come to an agreement with the player.
TEAMtalk reports that Roma have finalised a £20m deal with the Red Devils for the striker, but they are struggling to match Sancho’s wage demands, as he earns around £250,000 a week.
Amorim’s transfer window needs after the Arsenal loss
United often struggled physically against their opponents last season, but they were able to match Arsenal for much of the game at the weekend.
Despite a strong performance, Amorim’s team lost the game due to poor goalkeeping from Altay Bayindir, who was unable to handle a corner kick from Declan Rice in the first half.
Andre Onana is expected to return in goal once he is fully fit, but the Cameroonian goalkeeper has struggled for United since arriving in the summer of 2023.
There are also concerns about the midfield’s long-term future given that Bruno Fernandes will turn 31 in September, while Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro were weak in the 2024-25 season.
The addition of a goalkeeper and a midfielder should be seen as the team’s priority in the remaining days of the transfer window.
Jadon Sancho exit: United are struggling to sell
Sancho only has one year left on his contract, so his time at Old Trafford will end sooner or later.
The English player’s refusal to lower his wage demands could still hurt the club’s short-term future, because unless funds are released this summer, it is difficult to see how United can sign both a midfielder and a goalkeeper.
Other players such as Antony and Rasmus Hojlund are still at Old Trafford, and the team has actually not been able to sell a single player this transfer window.
Unless compromises can be reached with interested parties, Amorim may have no choice but to use the squad as it is today.
