The defeat against Chelsea in the Club World Cup has highlighted some positions that the French giants and reigning Champions League champions need to strengthen this summer.

Paris Saint-Germain’s loss in the 2025 Club World Cup final against Chelsea has had repercussions within the Parisian team. Aside from the psychological blow, the result has revealed some weaknesses in the squad, especially in midfield. Luis Enrique, PSG’s coach, has clearly identified the problem and has already expressed to the board his desire to strengthen this position immediately.

The Asturian coach has asked for the signings of two players he knows well: Marc Casadó and Fermín López, both from FC Barcelona. Luis Enrique has closely followed the development of these two midfielders over several seasons and believes they have the ideal profiles to both complement and compete with Vitinha and João Neves – the only midfielders he currently has full confidence in in the rotation.

Barcelona are willing to listen to offers… but always on their terms
PSG’s interest has not gone unnoticed by Barcelona. Although the Catalan club values both players highly and they are well-liked in the sporting project, the financial situation is still strained. They can consider offers if the Parisian team comes up with a convincing proposition.

But it won’t be cheap. According to leaks from Camp Nou, the valuations of both players are around 70 million euros each – a sum that could be negotiable depending on the terms and timing of the transfer. Luis Enrique, for his part, believes that both Casadó and Fermín will not only bring quality and balance, but also a competitive instinct that is lacking in his current midfield.

PSG want to react quickly, and the names Casadó and Fermín are marked in red on Luis Enrique’s list to strengthen their midfield after the setback in the World Cup final.
