David Moyes was singled out by Alex Ferguson as the chosen one. The Scot failed to meet expectations at Manchester United after 11 years as a very steady Everton manager. Now Moyes is back as a gaffer at Everton in the last season at Goodison Park as his home ground. With a new owner, Moyes as coach and soon a new stadium, the course is set to build the foundation for a return to the top of the Premier League and the fight for tickets to games in Europe.

Before the Manchester United game at Goodison Park, Moyes has secured 13 points from six games as Everton manager. Liverpool were sent home with a shock injury after a 2-2 draw in the Merseyside derby, with Virgil van Dijk trying to explain it away with a “this was their cup final”.

Optimism reigns again on the pitch, in the stands and out on the streets of the blue part of Liverpool. Now Moyes is pushing to bring in an old acquaintance to build the right squad for Everton.

According to Football-Insider, Moyes is the driving force behind bringing in David Weir from Brighton as Everton’s new sporting director. Weir played under Moyes from 2002 to 2007 and wore Everton’s captain’s armband as Moyes’ trusted manager on the pitch.

Weir has made 266 appearances in an Everton shirt and remains one of the supporters’ favourites. The 54-year-old returned to the club as coach of the club’s second team and academy, now it is back for another round, this time in the important position of sporting director.

According to the English media, Everton and Weir are in deeper negotiations, where an agreement is expected shortly.

“He wants him because they were working together at the time when Weir was playing for Everton, so there’s a relationship between them already. He has a good track record at Brighton. It will be a big signing for Everton, he will help them get on a better track, reports the English media.
