Ralph HasenHüttl was brought in as Sothampton coach in 2018 after impressing with RB Leipzig. The Austrian managed the transition to the world’s toughest league well, with his gegenpressing football. That lasted until November 2022, when Southampton were caught by gravity and kept below the relegation line. Hasenhüttl, who had kept his job even after the historically big 0-9 loss to Leicester, had to leave the ball island. It was a return to German football, on Monday this was also over.

In March 2024, Hasenhüttl was given the responsibility of leading Wolfsburg away from the relegation course from the Bundesliga, which the Austrian also succeeded in. On Saturday, Borussia Dortmund toyed with a 4-0 victory, the confidence that Hasenhüttl is the coach who would lead Wolfsburg up the Bundesliga table had disappeared.

“Ralph Hasenhüttl took over Wolfsburg last season in a difficult period. He succeeded in stabilizing the team. We thank him for that,” Wolfsburg’s sporting director Peter Christiansen begins to the club’s website.

“But the results and developments in recent months have made us react now. We have made this decision in close dialogue with the board committee. We wish Ralph Hasenhüttl all the best in the future, says the sporting director.

The club’s U19 coach is brought in to lead the club in the last few games, which will not result in relegation anyway.
