Barcelona president Joan Laporta has personally assured Rashford that the Catalans are fully committed to making him their number one striker. In Laporta’s vision, there is only one club for the Englishman next season. – Rashford has already agreed personal terms with Barcelona in principle. However, the structure of the agreement between the clubs is still unresolved, which makes the transfer a delicate matter. Therefore, new conversations are planned in the weeks to come.
After Joan Laporta secured a second term as president, the planning for the short, medium and long term can now begin in earnest.
Behind the scenes, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco is working on several scenarios for the squad planning next season. Rashford is included in these plans as a key attacking option, but the details of how the deal will be structured in the summer are still not finalised.
Although Barcelona are pushing for a deal, the process is complicated by the club’s well-known financial constraints. The LaLiga club is balancing its finances carefully, and is also considering a possible transfer for Atlético Madrid’s Julian Alvarez – which could affect how quickly, and in what form, a Rashford deal is completed.
Barcelona wants another loan – sources
TEAMtalk wrote in December, one solution that is being considered is to extend Rashford’s current loan for another 12 months, with a permanent transfer scheduled for 2027. Such an approach would ease the immediate financial pressure, while securing the player’s long-term future at Camp Nou.
Rashford is still under contract with Manchester United until 2028, but all parties agree that a permanent break is the right thing to do. United have made it clear that he is not part of their future plans, while the player himself has no desire to return to Old Trafford.
Despite an agreement in principle on both personal terms and overall structure between the clubs, the final signature remains.
With Barcelona pressing, United willing, and Rashford fully committed to the transfer, the deal is still getting closer. But until the financial details are in place, the saga remains open.
Possible barter? United want Real Madrid star
At the same time, it is reported that United have proposed a bid consisting of money plus player, as Barcelona do not want to activate the purchase option for Rashford.
