The Danish national team player Rasmus Højlund is in the spotlight ahead of Monday’s main match in Italy. – Denmark shares the fate of Italy and does not have to travel to the World Cup this summer. A World Cup that will be played, if it still takes place, in Mexico, the USA and Canada.
Højlund recently experienced a slump with Denmark, who lost to the Czech Republic during the week. Now, however, he is back in Italy, ready to prepare for the important match between Napoli and AC Milan. And it is in this connection that the Dane gets a lot of attention in the Italian media.

Napoli, who are in 3rd place in Serie A, a point behind AC Milan in 2nd place at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Monday afternoon. Inter Milan, even after some disappointing games, are a full 6 points above their stadium mate AC Milan.
SempreMilan writes that Rasmus Hojlund is looking for redemption after the defeat with Denmark.
Highlights from Højlund’s career so far:
- Moved from Sturm Graz to Atalanta in 2022, where he really broke through.
- Signed for Manchester United in the summer of 2023, after impressing big time in Serie A.
- Has scored 14 goals for Napoli so far this season – twice as many as Milan’s newly acquired striker.
- Approaching his personal goal record of 16 goals in a season.
Italian media fear the Dane
Tuttosport writes that Hojlund was a hot topic for AC Milan this summer as well, and that he played brilliantly against Milan in the Italian Super Cup. The newspaper therefore reports that they “fear” the Dane in Milan ahead of the match.
“The Dane is without a doubt their biggest horror in the match, where more than just second place can be at stake,” writes Tuttosport.
Approaching a personal best
Corriere dello Sport writes under the headline “Hojlund takes Napoli on his shoulders” that the Dane is approaching his personal goal record of 16 goals in a season. The newspaper also refers to him as Napoli’s irreplaceable striker.
In another article in the same newspaper, his development is praised further:
“Hojlund has improved and is showing a willingness to defend the ball and play more with his back to goal – exactly what head coach Antonio Conte wants. His constant development is evident. That is also why Napoli bought him from Manchester United for €44 million in the summer,” the newspaper concludes.
The future of Naples
Tuttomercatoweb quotes the paper edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, which writes:
“Hojlund is the centre of the attack and Napoli want to build their future around him.”
