Rasmus Hojlund is said to be determined to fight for his place at Manchester United, despite the club having set a price tag of £40 million for his services after they struck a deal to sign Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig.

Manager Rúben Amorim has overhauled his team’s attacking options, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo adding speed and technical quality to the squad.

These two attackers could soon join RB Leipzig striker Šeško, who is reportedly close to a move to Old Trafford for around £73.3 million.

Šeško’s imminent arrival could spell the end of the current number nine Hojlund’s time at the club, with rumours that Italian clubs are interested in him.

Transfer expert Ben Jacobs reports that United are willing to sell the 22-year-old player if their £40m valuation meets, but adds that Hojlund is still keen to fight for his place despite interest from Serie A and the Saudi Arabian professional league.

Why has Hojlund struggled to adapt to the Premier League?
The striker has struggled during his time in England, scoring just four goals in the Premier League last season, down from the ten goals he scored in the 2023/24 season.

Hojlund is still young enough to improve his performance in the offensive third, but he has struggled to compete against physically dominant defenders so far.

One of the key factors for a striker who delivers at his best is his shooting volume, with the best number nines often having multiple attempts on target.

Alexander Isak produced 3.1 shots per 90 minutes in the top division last season, while Hojlund only had 1.44 per 90, highlighting his difficulty creating shooting opportunities for himself.

Will Šeško be an improvement compared to Hojlund for Rúben Amorim?
Šeško is only 22 years old and needs to be given the time he needs to develop, but his underlying numbers are more promising than Højlund’s.

The Leipzig striker averaged 2.5 shots per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga last season and scored 13 goals, despite the German club having a turbulent season that led to manager Marco Rose losing his job.

It should be mentioned that Šeško tends to shoot from different angles and distances, and his shot placement needs to be honed if he is to be successful in the Premier League.

With the creative talents of Mbeumo and Cunha behind him, the striker may be able to focus more on his actions within the penalty area.
