Inter Milan ready to duel with Galatasaray for Calhanoglu – again

Thursday’s reports suggest that Inter would now rather keep midfield star Hakan Calhanoglu, and that they are ready to fend off another round of interest from Galatasaray when the transfer window opens – just as they did last summer.

Inter want to keep Calhanoglu until at least 2027

Calhanoglu (32) has just over a year left on his contract at the San Siro, which expires in the summer of 2027. He has spent the last nine seasons in Milan – the last five for the Nerazzurri.

The Turkish international, who has 104 appearances for the nation, has been linked with a move to Galatasaray on several occasions. The Turks reportedly had bids for Calhanoglu rejected in both the summer and winter windows.

With just over a year left on his contract, and with Inter expected to renew both their squad and possibly their tactical set-up in the summer, there has recently been speculation that Inter could let Calhanoglu go to Galatasaray – under the right financial conditions.

But according to the latest updates from La Gazzetta dello Sport, it no longer looks like that. Perhaps it was his magnificent goal in Inter’s 5-2 win over Roma at the weekend that reminded the Nerazzurri that Calhanoglu still has a lot to contribute.

A reliable midfield general

Inter believe Calhanoglu is a reliable midfield general – a player who can maintain standards and continuity if the team undergoes a major overhaul in the summer.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Cristian Chivu wants Calhanoglu to stay at Inter, knowing that few players possess the same qualities as the Turk. And those who do – Chelsea star Enzo Fernández is cited as an example – will almost certainly be out of Inter’s price range.

Whether Calhanoglu signs a new contract with Inter, or chooses to leave the club when the current deal expires in 2027, remains to be seen. But all indications are that Inter have no intention of losing him during the upcoming summer transfer window.
