When Carlo Ancelotti received a phone call from the Real Madrid president in 2021 with a summons for the coaching job, the Everton manager could not refuse. A few seasons later, the Italian has given the royal club the biggest titles, but this season it has started to blunt. The giant is still on course for the titles, but has shown weaknesses that should not come after giving Kylian Mbappe around €150 million to sign.
Ancelotti knows perfectly well that he will not continue as Real Madrid coach when the titles are not forthcoming, in his home country it is being prepared to position himself if Ancelotti is fired or resigns as Real coach after the season.
In December, Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Ancelotti was one of two candidates to take over AS Roma and lift the club to old glory.
In an interview with Rai Radio 1, Ancelotti has now responded to the rumour.
-Rome? There’s a lot of talk about it, but I’m very fond of Real Madrid and I’m working to stay here as long as possible. I am naturally very attached to Roma, where I have good memories, but there is a big difference between saying and doing,” Carlo Ancelotti begins, according to Romapress.
The 65-year-old has a contract with Real Madrid until the summer of 2026, but shows that changes can come – and quickly.
“Right now, I’m happy here and don’t think about my future. I still have a two-year contract here, but contracts can be broken or extended,” says the Italian fox.
Ancelotti led Roma from 1979-87 and is not closing the door on a return.
