At the top of the list of Manchester United’s record sales is superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Real Madrid in 2009 after six years starring at Old Trafford in 2009.
Ronaldo grew into a global superstar under Sir Alex Ferguson and won nine major awards with the Red Devils in what was a golden period for the club. The situation is not exactly the same now, but Real Madrid are at it again, this time with a £90 million cheque.

Manchester United captain and indeed top scorer Bruno Fernandes is a transfer target for Real Madrid – which gives the Red Devils a big dilemma
Daily Star Sport can reveal that Real Madrid, the most successful club in the world, has been represented at virtually every Manchester United match recently – both home and away.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim certainly doesn’t want to lose his inspirational captain, but United’s desire to cut and raise money means that they will seriously consider such a big bid for their attacking midfielder.
Real are planning a team overhaul at the end of the season, which includes the signing of England right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool.

It’s no secret that Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid are big admirers of Bruno Fernandes, his ability to “dig deep” when the going gets tough, has impressed him.
The former Tottenham midfielder recently became the oldest player to appear for Real Madrid in their trophy-filled history. But Modric, after a stellar career, is out of contract at the end of the season. And even though he signs a 12-month deal, his time in the Spanish capital is clearly coming to an end.
That’s one of the reasons why Fernandes, under contract at Old Trafford until 2027 – plus the option for an extra year – is in the Bernabeu framework.
A £90 million transfer would be Manchester United’s record sale, exceeding the £80 million that Real Madrid paid for Cristiano Ronaldo in June 2009. Fernandes joined United in January 2020 from Sporting Lisbon in a £68 million deal.
The Portuguese star has 95 goals for the Red Devils in 227 appearances in all competitions. He is also the club’s top scorer this season, with eight goals in 28 Premier League games, and has been in blistering form since February.
Fernandes scored a hat-trick in the 4-1 win over Real Sociedad in the Europa League at the beginning of this month, and he has scored 16 goals and 16 assists in 44 appearances in all competitions.
