It is said to have been a big setback for Davide Ancelotti, who has worked in the skirts of his more famous father Carlo Ancelotti all his adult life.

Ever since he retired as an active footballer, he has had roles where his father Carlo Ancelotti has been the head coach, in 2012 he became a fitness coach at Paris Saint-Germain, a job he got at Real Madrid the following year when his father moved to the Spanish capital. So after that, Davide Anselotti has held a higher position as an assistant manger at Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton and then back at Real Madrid.

Davide Ancelotti was finally going to stand on his own two feet and the Scottish club Rangers were keen, but then they chose an old football hero with experience from the ball island Russel Martin.

Davide Ancelotti has recovered quickly after being scrapped by Rangers and has now secured a big job just hours after this setback.

Missed the Rangers job

Now the former Real Madrid assistant coach is ready for a new collaboration with his father (something he has said is rewarding, but that now is the time to stand on his own two feet). The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) has confirmed that he will take a role in the new setup before the 2026 World Cup.

Brazil welcomes Ancelotti

In a statement, the CBF said:
“The arrival of Davide Ancelotti to the national team represents a new step by the CBF in its quest for innovation and technical improvement. His international experience and training methodology will be crucial for the development of the players and for building an even more competitive team.”

The federation added:
“The CBF welcomes Davide Ancelotti and is confident that his presence will be an important reinforcement on the Brazilian national team’s path towards its goals.”

Quick career change

Ancelotti has been linked with several coaching jobs around Europe, including Serie A club Como, who have also reportedly considered him.

But now the 35-year-old will work with his father for Brazil. Just hours after being scrapped by Rangers, it became clear that he will join the national team for a World Cup qualifier against Paraguay on Tuesday.

Challenges await

Carlo Ancelotti’s first game as Brazil’s national team manager ended goalless against Ecuador in a tough CONMEBOL qualifying group.

Brazil are fourth in the table with 22 points, but with six of the ten nations automatically qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, the Italian coach is expected to lead the team to the championship with ease. There are only three games left.
