When Marcelo Vieira was not heard by Fluminense manager Mano Menezes and was treated like a jerk, it didn’t take long for the 36-year-old Real Madrid legend to take his hat and leave.

In the match that ended 2 – 2 between Fluminense and Gremio, Luis Suarez’s old club, it was not what happened on the pitch that piqued the journalists’ interest, but what happened on the sidelines and the outcome of the episode.

Marcelo had finally returned home to his youth club Fluminense after 16 years in Europe.

Marcelo was supposed to be substituted in Fluminense’s game against Gremio, but he seemed to exchange some well-chosen words with the coach. Menezes reacted and sent the 36-year-old back to the bench. He put on his vest, and judging by the look on his face, he was not very happy.

It didn’t take long for his contract with Fluminense to be broken.

“The emotional ties between Fluminense and Marcelo will be maintained. The player’s name has been immortalized at the Zerém training facility.”

Now it’s all history and now the Brazilian left-back wants a return to Europe.

Foot Mercato said Marcelo is close to returning to La Liga, as he is currently in talks with Leganes over a joint future from next year.

Marcelo has previously played with Olympiakos and Real Madrid in Europe. He has a total of 546 games with the Spanish big club.

Leganes are currently in 15th place in La Liga.
