Marc Guehi has played his way to the status of one of the Premier League’s best centre-backs. In the summer, the England international was well on his way to Liverpool, but the combination of Crystal Palace manager putting on the brakes, Palace chairman closing the door and a Liverpool that saw the opportunity to sign the 25-year-old on a free transfer next summer, stopped the transfer. In recent months, various media outlets have reported that Real Madrid intend to take advantage of the situation and have signed up to sign free agent Guehi in front of the Liverpool management. Now it is reported that this is perceived as a “done deal.

Los Blancos are known for targeting free agents who can be placed directly in the starting eleven. The La Liga giant signed free agent David Alaba from Bayern Munich and Antonio Rüdiger from Chelsea. With both Alaba and Rüdiger at the end of their careers, Real have made central defence a top priority. Guehis is seen as an important addition, the Englishman should have no trouble settling down in the Spanish capital with Jude Bellingham and long-time friend Trent Alexander-Arnold ready to give him company.
With Liverpool still actively pushing to persuade Guehi, Bayern Munich’s sporting director already in meetings with the centre-back’s agent and also Barcelona on the hunt for another free agent signing, Real Madrid Madrid will face strong competition. According to The Sun, the Real Madrid management sends them “confident” that Guehi will pull on the Real shirt this summer.
