One of the biggest scandals in La Liga from the point of view of Barcelona fans is the betrayal of Luis Figo’s controversial transfer from Barcelona to Real Madrid back in the year 2000.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez reportedly wants to repeat Luis Figo’s controversial transfer by targeting a Barcelona star. – Back in 2000, Figo shocked European football by leaving Barcelona for arch-rivals Madrid, in a deal worth a reported sum of €62 million.

At the time, Los Blancos matched the Portuguese’s buyout clause, which was also a world record transfer fee. – A sum Barcelona set because they didn’t think anyone would pay that much. – Doubt that Real Madrid will set a world record this time, but it will be expensive.
Barcelona supporters were furious and accused Luis Figo of betraying the club.
Figo went on to play 245 games for Madrid, scoring 58 goals and winning two La Liga titles and one Champions League, among other trophies.
Recently, it has been reported that Madrid are looking to repeat the Figo transfer.
Spanish news agency ElDesmarque, and journalist Siro Lopez report that Real Madrid are interested in signing Barcelona star Pedri.
It would be an “impossible signing,” but it is President Perez’s “dream.”
The journalist said: “The player Real Madrid want to bring in for the 2027/28 season, according to information that has been sent to Juan Gato, is Pedri.
“You’ll agree with me that it would be a bombshell, only on a par with what happened to Luis Figo in the 2000/01 season. It’s not just that you’re reinforcing yourself, it’s that you’re taking away an essential player from Barcelona.”
Pedri, 23 years old, is one of the best players in world football and an important part of Hansi Flick’s plans.
Since joining Barcelona from Las Palmas, Pedri has made 227 appearances for the Catalan giants and scored 28 goals.
To make matters more difficult for Madrid, the Spaniard is under contract with Barcelona until 2030 and has a huge buyout clause that is reportedly set at one billion euros.
Another journalist, Roberto Gomez, also confirmed the news. He said: “The player Florentino Pérez wants is Pedri. I only say two words to you: Luis Figo.”
