According to Spanish media, Álvaro Carreras will not be able to play in the Club World Cup for Real Madrid even if the club signs a deal with Benfica.

Los Blancos have sought to end transfer actions early this summer before the Club World Cup in the United States. Under new coach Xabi Alonso, the team will try to recover from a disappointing season.

The club has already brought in:
- Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth
- Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool (for €10 million)
Delayed Carreras transfer
Real Madrid also wanted to sign Álvaro Carreras from Benfica before Tuesday’s deadline, but:
- Negotiations have been going on for weeks without an agreement
- Carreras strongly wants to return to Madrid (formerly in the academy)
- Personal terms are not a problem
Club World Cup
registration problem According to El Chiringuito and MARCA:
- Benfica have registered Carreras in their preliminary squad
- This probably makes him unavailable for Madrid in the tournament
- The Spanish club could still include him if the transfer happens before the deadline and Benfica manage to withdraw Carreras from their squad.
FIFA’s rules clearly state:
- A player can only be in one club’s final squad
- FIFA will settle disputes over player registrations
With Benfica already in the United States with Carreras, and a €50 million transfer that has not been clarified, it looks like Madrid will have to wait to use their new signing.
