The Spanish full-back never made a single appearance for Manchester United’s first team after he left Real Madrid’s academy to join the English giants’ youth department in 2020. After four years and three loans, Benfica signed Carreras permanently for a modest sum of €6 million last summer.
The Portuguese side could now make a significant profit from the sale of the full-back this summer – if they let him go at all. Manchester United are said to have included a buy-back clause in Carreras’ transfer worth €20 million. – While all other interested parties will have to fork out a whopping €50 million for the 22-year-old’s services, the road back to Old Trafford is open for a fraction of his value.
Liverpool, Barcelona, Juventus have all been linked with the player. The Athletic have confirmed that Real Madrid are also interested in the full-back. – The reason is injuries and that Álvaro Carreras is ready for something bigger.

High price could become an obstacle
Carreras is said to be highly valued by Madrid, but his high price tag is less appealing. Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, valued at £45 million, is expected to be even more expensive and is already coveted by both Liverpool and Manchester City.
Another player who is often linked with a return to the capital is former Madrid academy player Miguel Gutiérrez. He is believed to be available for just €9 million this summer.
It is also unclear who will make the decisions about the left-back next season. Carlo Ancelotti is expected to leave the Spanish capital either now or right after the Club World Cup this summer.
Xabi Alonso is universally seen as Madrid’s first candidate for the manager’s job, but Bayer Leverkusen have not been told that their current manager will leave the club yet.
