Last month, Spanish media claimed the Real Madrid management was “safe” they were the ones securing the signature of Marc Guehi. In the summer, the England international will walk out of Selhurst Park as a free agent. Liverpool were a few yards away from signing the coveted centre-back in the summer, but the transfer was blocked by Crystal Palace management. Now it is reported that Liverpool are back in pole position again.

It is clear that Guehi’s agent has been inspired by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s signing with Real Madrid, where the Liverpool player negotiated around €20 million in sign-on fees, plus a hefty €15 million annual salary.

According to Spanish AS’s sources, Marc Guehi’s demands for an excessively hefty signing bonus and annual salary have forced Real Madrid to steer clear. The Spanish media describe claims that have made it almost impossible for Real Madrid to secure the 25-year-old’s signature.

This means that Liverpool are back in pole position, with Bayern Munich on wheels.

But it will come at a cost.
