In the winter transfer window, City spent £200 million on Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Nico Gonzalez. The season seems to be narrowly saved by a Champions League ticket. This summer, City were supposed to follow up by signing Pep Guardiola’s dream player for a gigantic €150 million. It turns out that this amount will not be anywhere near what the Premier League club needs to spend up. Then the brakes are pressed hard.
Bayer Leverkusen know they are in the driver’s seat when it comes to Florian Wirtz. Manchester City are working to secure the extreme German talent, Liverpool and Bayern Munich also have the calculator out to work out how to manoeuvre their way to signing the 22-year-old.

Wirtz has this week been in talks with both Manchester City and Liverpool in England, according to the BBC, Manchester City have stepped the brakes. The aim was to sign the attacking midfielder before the Club World Cup in June, but the English state media claim City have been told a signing of Wirtz would break the record in the Premier League, as Chelsea signed Enzo Fernandez for a whopping €121 million from Benfica.
According to the BBC, City will have to shell out an astronomical €300 million for Wirzt, when bonuses are included for all parties.
