On Tuesday, Nottingham Forest had former Man United player and match-winner Anthony Elanga. Manchester United had Zirkzee, Garnacho, Fernandes and substitutes Hojlund/Mount, but no goalscorers. This was the Premier League night when Manchester United could really use a goalgetter at the top.

Around two months before the transfer window opens, it is crystal clear: Not only do United and Amorim need a player at the top who creates the extra chances and delivers the extra goals, without the right striker reinforcement, Amorim will lead United forward – as they did this season.

You could say that more of the Amorim game will fall into place with a full pre-season, but United will need a player whose presence on the pitch creates an advantage for the Red Devils.

Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyökeres are heavily linked to Man United, but both cost a lot, both have ambitions to play for titles and in the Champions League. If Ruben Amorim continues to fumble all the way to the end of the season, there is little to draw the two “Viktors” to Old Trafford – except for the salary.

22-year-old Liam Delap has scored 10 Premier League goals under former Man United manager Kieran McKenna, this for Ipswich, the Premier League’s third weakest club.

Delap has shown that as a striker he makes the big difference for the club. With a buyout clause of £40 million, the 22-year-old is also financially within reach for United. The Daily Mail goes so far as to claim an Ipswich relegation from the Premier League sends Delap to Manchester United.
