Sunday came the fifth defeat in the last six Premier League games. Last season, Liverpool finished 38 games with 4 defeats – in total. In other words, already more losses this season than the whole of the previous one. After the football execution and a 3-0 loss at the Etihad, Arne Slot was of course asked about the title match.

The journalist who asked if Liverpool are still in the fight for the Premier League got a slightly blank look in return from Arne Slot. What kind of questions are there after suffering their fifth defeat in their last six games?

“It feels like too many losses, and the last thing I should be talking about now is the title fight. We must first focus on getting results. Result after result after result, before we can even start thinking about it, and the reality is that we are in eighth place now,” Slot said at the press conference after the City game.

Who believes the position in eight games tells where Liverpool can position themselves in the Premier League table.

“One team is a long way ahead, even though City are only four points behind Arsenal. The rest is quite close, and I said many times last season – even when we were leading at the start – that the best way to assess the table is of course after 38 games. The next best thing is to assess it after 19 games, because then everyone has faced the same opponents,” says the Liverpool manager.
