Manchester United’s director of football Jason Wilcox can accommodate interim boss Michael Carrick with one signing this month.
Rio Ferdinand is convinced that Victor Osimhen would “100 percent come” to Manchester United, amid new reports linking the Red Devils to the Galatasaray striker. At the same time, director of football Jason Wilcox is said to be ready to give the green light for a transfer demand from Michael Carrick.

Manchester United started a new era with a very promising 2-0 win over city rivals Manchester City on Saturday afternoon, thanks to goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu. The result lifted them to fourth place in the Premier League table (for a few hours). The win strengthens Carrick’s chances of helping the club secure a top-four finish and a return to the Champions League next season.
Securing a return to Europe’s top flight would both strengthen Carrick’s chances of landing the job permanently – sources have revealed that this is the 44-year-old manager’s goal – and at the same time bolster the club’s purchasing power this summer, as well as its ability to attract top names to Old Trafford. – However, many experts believe that the bosses of Manchester United locked on either signing the world’s most boring manager Thomas Tuchel or Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner. Ferdinand is convinced that one of these should be Nigeria’s goal thief Victor Osimhen, who has scored an impressive 49 goals in 57 appearances since moving to the Turkish club.
In light of new links between United and the 27-year-old player, it is reported that Galatasaray have set a prohibitive price of €140 million (£121 million, $162 million) on Osimhen.
However, Ferdinand is convinced that any kind of rapprochement from United with the player will make the deal get a big green light, at least from the player himself.
During a conversation with former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan on the Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube channel, Ferdinand insisted that Osimhen would seize the opportunity with both hands to play for United if they gave him the opportunity.
“Victor Osimhen, he loves to score goals, he plays with his heart and gives everything. I’m surprised that big clubs didn’t go for him in this transfer window. Hopefully I also feel for Manchester United, just in case he wants to come because of their history and everything,” Gyan said.
Ferdinand then replied: “Osimhen would come to United. If United offered to sign Osimhen, he would leave, 100 percent.”
“That’s the kind of striker we need right now, we’ve got Mbeumo on the wing doing what he needs to do,” Gyan added to conclude.

Manchester United ready to make a surprise January signing.
While a transfer for Osimhen is not on the agenda this month, United appear to be ready to make a surprise dive into the transfer market to accommodate a Carrick transfer wish.
When he switched to a 4-3-3 system after his appointment at Old Trafford – a refreshing change from Ruben Amorim’s predictable and often inappropriate 3-4-2-1 formation – United appear to lack an obvious option to start on the left wing of attack.
That was perhaps illustrated by the fact that left-back Patrick Dorgu was chosen to start Saturday’s derby there, although the Danish international responded by scoring the team’s second goal and thus justifying Carrick’s decision to select him.
However, United’s interim boss has made it clear that he wants another option to play there for the rest of the season, as neither Dorgu nor Matheus Cunha, who started there in the exit against Brighton in the FA Cup, are seen as natural alternatives.
As a result, it is now reported that Wilcox will be looking at a potential signing of a left-winger this month, although any growth is likely to only happen via the loan market.
Amorim had talks over a £65m deal for Antoine Semenyo, ahead of the winger’s move to Manchester City earlier this month. And while United are not prepared to use it for an option, and saw the former Bournemouth player as a unique opportunity not to be missed, they will approve one addition if the terms are deemed reasonable.
According to Football Insider, the Red Devils are ready to “accelerate their plans to land a new signing, preferably on loan given their financial situation, before the window closes.”
Elliot Anderson hopes are fading; Sale of £80 million star blocked.
Of course, Michael United are also looking to sign a new midfielder this summer, as the club wants to let veteran star Casemiro leave at the end of his contract this summer.
In this regard, we have consistently reported on the club’s desire to bring in Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson – an interest that has not faded as a result of Amorim’s departure.
However, TEAMtalk has learned that Manchester City are determined to make their next big acquisition after Semenyo and Marc Guehi this month – and there is a growing feeling that a deal is possible, as the ‘Tricky Trees’ asking price has emerged.
Elsewhere, United have been hoping that a big deal for a Danish midfielder could be on the cards, after receiving encouragement from a Portuguese journalist that a deal could be struck.
In other news, Carrick has made it clear to the Red Devils’ board that an £80 million signing cannot be allowed to leave under any circumstances this month, despite the club receiving several enquiries for their veteran star this month.
And finally, in the race to become United’s next manager, two big names have now seemingly passed Oliver Glasner in the race, despite confirmation from the Austrian that he is leaving Crystal Palace this summer.
