There could be rebellion in Tottenham’s squad. Several players are furious that Ange Postecoglou has been fired, according to The Telegraph.

On Friday, it became official that Tottenham have sacked Postecoglou after two years as coach. The dismissal comes just 16 days after he led the team to victory in the Europa League.

“While winning the Europa League this season is one of the club’s greatest moments, we cannot base our decisions on the emotions associated with this success,” Tottenham wrote in a statement.

Now, The Telegraph claims that several players at Tottenham are “furious” with the decision and how the process has been handled. The newspaper goes so far as to claim that chairman Daniel Levy risks a “player revolt” as a result.

According to sources, some of the players are so angry that they are even considering leaving the club, and that Postecoglou’s replacement will face a “huge challenge” in repairing the damage in a now divided dressing room.

Postecoglou received no indication from management about his job security for over two weeks before the news of his dismissal came on Friday.

“The players are so angry about what has happened and how it has been handled. The next coach will inherit a difficult situation,” a source told The Telegraph.

Which players are upset is not clear from the report. The Swedish duo of Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Bergvall are part of the squad.

Thomas Frank (Brentford) is seen as the main candidate to replace Postecoglou. Marco Silva (Fulham) and Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth) are two other names linked with the position.

Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League in the final season, with an unflattering record of 22 defeats in 38 games.
