Then it was done. Tottenham have persuaded Roberto de Zerbi to take over the coaching job a few months ahead of schedule. On Tuesday evening, the London club presented the former Brighton coach as responsible for leading Tottenham out of relegation – and climbing the Premier League table for the next five years.

“I am thrilled to be joining this fantastic football club, one of the biggest and most prestigious in the world. In all my conversations with the club’s management, their ambitions for the future have been clear – to build a team that can achieve great things, and to do it in a way that excites our fans,” an enthusiastic De Zerbi told the club’s website.

“I’m here because I believe in that ambition, and I’ve signed a long-term contract to give everything to realize it. Our short-term priority is to climb the Premier League table, which will be our full focus until the final whistle goes in the last game of the season. I look forward to getting out on the training ground and working with the players to achieve this,” says the new Tottenham coach.

According to the Times , the Italian receives around £12-15 million in annual salary, which places him only behind Pep Guaridola and Mikel Arteta as the highest-paid coach in the Premier League. In addition, there are reports of a hefty “survival bonus” when De Zerbi has saved Tottenham from relegation.
