Ronaldinho’s son, Joao Mendes, is ready to sign for another English club after leaving Burnley.

According to Hull Live, Hull City are in the process of signing Mendes, the son of former Barcelona star and 2005 Ballon d’Or winner, Ronaldinho, and the young player will join the club’s academy.

Mendes is scheduled to join Hull’s U21 squad at Bishop Burton College, after spending 12 months at Burnley.

The 20-year-old left-footed winger started his career in Cruzeiro’s academy before joining Barcelona’s famous La Masia.

He left Barcelona for Turf Moor last summer, and he made five appearances in the Premier League Cup for the youth team, scoring one goal and recording two assists.

In a recent interview, Mendes insisted that he is eager to make his own name in football, despite his iconic father.

“I want to be Joao, no matter what,” he told ESPN Brazil. “I never tried to be my father, I never wanted to be my father. So to get away from where he was playing [Barca] and what’s close, I think it was a good start and a good step for me.”

“I think people on the outside want you to be something you’re never going to be, whether you like it or not, right? It’s good to be here.”

“My dad was one of the best, if not the best, to ever play the game. So it’s a source of pride to be his son and to be able to talk about him. I try to do my own thing, I try not to involve my father in things, I try to play my football my way, without pressure.”

At the same interval, he added that he is still getting used to the cooler climate in the UK and that he is still adjusting to life at Burnley.

“It’s difficult at first, there’s no doubt about it,” he said. “Especially now in winter, and here, since it’s in the north, it’s a little worse. If you put on one glove, two socks, we’ll be fine.”

“Even though it’s a small town, people are very passionate and connected to football. You can see it in the games here, because [the fans] are always filling the stadium. I think it’s very nice here, the connection they have with the club is very big.”
