Bayern Munich boss Karl-Heinz Rumenigge called Newcastle’s signing of Nick Woltemade madness, or in the legend’s own words: “I can only congratulate those in Stuttgart for finding – let me put it in quotation marks – ‘idiots’ who paid so much money”. The Bundesliga giant had flashed the Stuttgart striker, but was not close to accepting his rival’s demands for a transfer fee. Newcastle were happy to fork out £69 million to stem the pressure of top scorer Alexander Isak on a Liverpool transfer. After 23 games for the German, it’s time to make a comparison. It turns out that the “idiots” live very well with their investment in Woltemade.
On Saturday, Woltemade was behind both Newcastle goals in the 2-2 draw against Chelsea. With this, the 1.98 meter tall striker is up to 9 goals, one for every 202 minutes he has been on the pitch this season.

His two goals against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon showed why he is the Newcastle supporters’ favourite. We scroll back to Alexander Isak’s first season in the Newcastle shirt in 2022.
Isak quickly found himself at home in his new surroundings and scored a super goal on his debut for the Magpies at Anfield In his first 23 games that season – interrupted by a three-month absence with a thigh injury – Isak had an impressive 10 goals in the team – one more than Woltemade so far.
Injuries are part of football, but for Newcastle it is extra valuable to see Woltemade have reached their 23 games without injury, the transition to pace, punch and intensity in the world’s toughest league has been taken without a single injury absence.

At Liverpool, Isak finally scored in the Premier League against Tottenham, but was helped off the pitch with a new injury. Newcastle supporters can live very well with the switch of Isak to Woltemade.
