“I don’t think the manager understands this club. Period.” This is the start of Paul Scholes’ tirade against Ruben Amorim, but also the United management who chose the Portuguese just over a year ago.

Now it’s Paul Scholes’ job to make headlines, but there is something “genuine” in the criticism of Amorim, from the man who has been part of Manchester United from his youth in the early 1990s, until he retired in 2013 and has followed the club closely ever since.

-I just don’t think he (Amorim) is the right man. Manchester United is all about risk and entertainment, and keeping the fans on the edge of their seats. Wingers passing people, shots on goal. We don’t see any of that,” Scholes says on the podcast The Good, The Bad & The Football.

“This applies to several people in the club. We talk about how it is a different club than before. They have Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox, who are certainly brilliant at what they do, but they are not Man United, they have no idea what it means to buy a Man United player and bring in a Man United manager. If you go to Sporting and see that they play with three at the back, it should be a no immediately, because Man United never do that. You can’t do that, it’s been proven year after year, even before Sir Alex Ferguson. It’s always been 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2 and entertaining people,” Scholes continues.

Who believes Amorim is doomed to fail.

“He doesn’t have it in him. That’s why I highlight Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada. They probably went and watched Sporting. How could they think this was a United manager?
