Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has promised to give Luke Shaw as much time as he needs to recover from his latest injury setback.

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has recently returned to the squad after almost a year out with injury and was set to make his first start under Ruben Amorim.

Shaw came on as a substitute in each of Amorim’s first three games but now looks set for another lengthy period out.

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw, who had only recently returned from injury, has suffered another setback.

The England international admitted he was going through his ‘toughest period’ this week.

Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim has publicly voiced his support for the English defender.

“No matter how long he needs to return, I will be with him” – said Amorim.

“We will help him to return. Not just Man United, but your national team needs a guy like Luke Shaw, so we are here to help him”.

“What I can say since I arrived, I see him in the medical department working a lot in the gym” – said Amorim. “Working a lot on the pitch, we control the load during the games, during the trainings, he was losing weight, so he was doing everything.”

“If he continues to do that behaviour, he’s a top, top player and we need him. No matter how long he will need, I will be with him, we will help him to return. Not just Manchester United but your national team needs a guy like Luke Shaw, so we are here to help him.”

Amorim has not put a timeframe on when he expects Shaw to return.

Shaw took to social media on Tuesday to confirm his latest injury. He said: “Hi guys, it’s hurting a lot having to write this as I really thought I had got through my recent struggles and was on a positive path going forward, but unfortunately I’ve had a small setback.”

“I’ve been through a lot and had a lot of ups and downs but this has definitely been my toughest period. I’m absolutely devastated and it’s extremely tough to come to terms with reality at this moment in time.”

“I understand there is gunna be people frustrated, angry, disappointed and I understand all that. There is no one feeling that more than me at this moment in time. But what I can promise is I will do everything I can to come back better soon to help this club achieve its ambitions this season.”

“Thank you to everyone for the support. It really doesn’t go unnoticed and I really do appreciate it.”
