The plan was to wait until the summer and then bring some of their old players to Manchester United, but now Borussia Dortmund have “forced” Ruben Amorim to renege on his promise and start securing Sporting players.
A Bola reports that Manchester United are now moving up their interest in Gonçalo Inácio. According to the newspaper, the player’s agent was in England last week and met with the Premier League giants to discuss a possible transfer.
Initially, there is talk of a loan over the spring season with a mandatory purchase option of 40 million euros. That is the minimum amount Sporting will demand to release the 23-year-old.
At Manchester United, however, the principle of “one in, one out” applies. It is the Premier League’s own rules that prevent the giant from signing more unless they sell first, so it remains to be seen if they can raise enough funds to strike for the Portuguese centre-back.
Borussia Dortmund, who have a stable economy and almost unlimited purchasing power after decades of skillful action in the summer market, are also showing interest in Inácio, who is under contract until 2027. The German club is said to have asked about the terms of a signing and is preparing an “offensive” chase.
In recent seasons, they have sold for unbelievable amounts, including Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid for €113 million, Erling Braut Haaland to Manchester City for €60 million and Jadon Sancho to Manchester United for €85 million.
