There was tremendous optimism when Ruben Amorim entered the stage in the red part of Manchester. The Portuguese was one of the hottest younger coaches on the market and delivered a highly effective and entertaining football with Sporting. Amorim himself wanted to wait until after the end of the season, but was pressured into a “now-or-never” decision. After seven defeats in thirteen Premier League games, the 40-year-old realises that it could all be over before it has really begun.
Amorim himself believes in the change he brings to one of the world’s biggest clubs, but also understands that the hourglass of patience is running out. 13th place in the Premier League table cannot be defended with “I said it takes time, boys”.
The last time Amorim was asked if he saw himself in a position where he could be sacked, it was not a topic for the United manager. A month later, Amorim has realized he has delivered to risk being fired.
“I accept that. It’s a choice you make as a coach, but I have great faith in the things I do. I know that in a club like this with that pressure, you are always in danger. I’m aware of that, but it’s not my main concern. Losing games is the hardest part of my job – not getting fired,” Amorim said, according to the Mirror.
