The breakup comes by “mutual agreement”, as it is so beautifully called.

Ruben Amorim was pressured to make the decision to take the job as Manchester United manager at the halfway point of the season. The Portuguese himself stated that he wanted to stay with Sporting for the rest of the season. Dan Aswhorth was one of the directors who helped give Amorim the ultimatum: “Say yes now, or lose the opportunity.”

On Sunday, Ashworth himself is history, five months after Manchester United paid around £10 million to release the sporting director from Newcastle.

This means that Ratcliffe and the gang, who cut costs in the east and west “to spend the money on players”, have thrown out around £33 million in two months: £11 million to Ten Hag, £11 million to Sporting for Amorim, £10 million to Newcastle for five months with Dan Ashworth.
