Graham Potter. David Moyes. The two English coaches were favourites to take over the Leicester job if Steve Cooper could not turn the ship away from relegation. Then Manchester United fired, and Ruud van Nistelrooy showed in a few weeks and four games what effect he has on an entire squad when he has the main responsibility. Midfielder Daniel Gore is the first name mentioned, he has only played two senior games for the Red Devils so far, and the 20-year-old’s current market value is €900,000 (Transfermarkt) with a contract expiry in the summer of 2026.
Harry Amass is the next name on the list. The 17-year-old left-back is considered too young to try and fill in for the oft-injured Luke Shaw at Old Trafford.
Amass is an England youth international who was called up for United’s first-team training for the first time in February. In April, he was given a place on the bench for United against Liverpool, but did not feature in the game.
The last name mentioned is defensive midfielder Toby Collyer, who joined United’s academy from Brighton in 2022 and made a big impression in Premier League 2 last season.
After featuring in pre-season under Ten Hag, he featured in the 2024 FA Community Shield against Manchester City, coming on as a substitute in the 59th minute. Collyer made his Premier League debut on 1 September, coming on for Casemiro in a 0–3 home defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford.
