When David Wagner, Jürgen Klopp’s friend, was brought in as Huddersfield Town manager in 2015, the club’s ambitions were big. In the 2017/18 season, the big step came to the Premier League. Then came the relegation in 2019, since then Huddersfield have lost contact with the Premier League. On Saturday, it was a former Manchester United goalkeeper’s turn to be “thanked for the attempt”.
Lee Grant ended his career as a reserve goalkeeper at Manchester United in 2022, in May 2025 he was brought in as head coach of Huddersfield with a view to promotion from League One. Experience as an assistant coach for Ipswich was the 42-year-old’s background. On Saturday, the club lost 1-3 to Burton Athletic and are currently sixth in the table. Not approved when the supporters still remember rounds of Premier League games.
