Finally, Sandro Tonalo, who was brought in from AC Milan in the summer of 2023 and went reasonably straight into a ban due to betting, seems to have started defending the €58.8 million price.
It would be a cautious statement to say the 24-year-old midfielder has found his form again. “He is simply spectacular, which he really showed in yesterday’s Premier League game against a Brentford team without a chance.

Not unexpectedly, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Sandro Tonali is wanted back in Italy, a task that would have been easy and relatively cheap in January.
People and pundits are blown away by what they saw from the spectacular goal Sandro scored for “The Magpies” against Brentford on Wednesday night.
Fans believe that the Puskás award for 2025 has already been decided.
The 24-year-old Tonali secured all three points for Newcastle with a Puskás-worthy shot in the 74th minute at St. James’ Park.
The game was Newcastle’s first since they won their first major trophy in 70 years, beating Liverpool 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final before the international break in March.
But first: It wouldn’t be a Newcastle game without Alexander Isak scoring his almost mandatory goal, which opened the scoring just before half-time.

Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, on the other hand, equalised on a penalty in the 66th minute, but just eight minutes later, Tonali scored a goal worthy of deciding any football match – as you can see below – and secured a 2-1 victory for Eddie Howe’s side.
“Where on earth did it come from?” said former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“From the angle Tonali shot from, you have no right to score.
99.9% of the time it’s a cross, but here he piles it straight into the goal. I can’t promise he meant it, but it’s a fantastic goal.”
Fans on social media were speechless, but some questioned whether he really meant the goal.
One user wrote
, “Tonali hit it too hard and straight for it not to be intended. What a player!”
Another added
: “It’s impossible that he tries to post a post with that technique and strength. Crazy finish if Tonali meant it!”
A third commented:
“100% that Tonali went for goal! One of the best goals I’ve seen!”
While a fourth exclaimed,
“Tonali has just scored a Puskás-worthy goal out of nowhere.”
A fifth claimed:
“Sorry, but that is clearly a post.”
What Tonali himself says about the goal
It wasn’t long before Tonali revealed if he meant the goal.
“Honestly, it was 70% crosses and 30% shots,” he told Premier League Productions after the game.
“It was difficult for the goalkeeper – and for me too. A bit of luck, too.”
“I think I’m happy for the trophy of these supporters, because they deserve it,” the Italian midfielder added.
“Every game we have 52,000 spectators in the stadium, and that’s fantastic for football. I’m so happy to play every game here with these amazing fans.”
