The Scotland international is desperate to reunite with the Manchester United star.
Former Manchester United player Scott McTominay has urged his Napoli boss Antonio Conte to sign his ex-teammate in January.
McTominay has been a sensation in Italian football since leaving Old Trafford on a permanent basis last season. In his debut season, the Scot scored 12 goals, won Serie A, was named Napoli Player of the Year, and even finished in the top 20 in the Ballon d’Or in 2025.
Napoli seems to have become the most likely destination, after Kevin De Bruyne and Rasmus Hojlund joined the reigning league champions last summer.

According to a source such as Sportbible, there could be another move in the works, as McTominay is desperate for Napoli to bolster their squad with another of his former United teammates.
The source said, “Scott has met Conte and asked him to pick up Kobbie.”
“He’s told him all about his strengths and what an exceptional player he is,” the source continued.
“He knows him well from his time at United and believes he would be a fantastic addition to the squad, whether it’s on loan or on a permanent deal.”
“He would fit right in and give Napoli a boost,”
Mainoo’s future is a hot topic of debate
Mainoo’s future has been a hot topic of discussion, after a loan attempt was turned down by Ruben Amorim towards the end of the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old has not started a single Premier League game this season and has not played for England since September 2024, despite starting the Euro final in 2024.
Amorim’s take on Kobbie Mainoo
Despite the fact that the statistics tell a different story, Amorim has emphasized that Mainoo is still part of his plans. He last spoke about the player’s role in the squad before the Manchester derby.
“I’m a big believer in Kobbie, but some of you think that Kobbie Mainoo is already fully developed. I think he can get so much better. He can improve in many areas,” he told the media.
The United manager claimed that the midfielder’s challenges lie in understanding his role in the team.
“Kobbie could have played like a ‘6, but sometimes he passes the ball and runs away, and that’s not how a ‘6’ should behave,” he continued.
“I think he needs more pace in his game, he needs to understand the position better, and he needs to vary his speed – sometimes he needs to play slower, sometimes faster. I think he can improve on that.”
