Last season, the Spanish media hailed Griezmann/Sørloth as one of the sharpest attacking duos in La Liga. The two strikers are what is called complementary, two players who complement each other on the pitch – and take advantage of this. Last summer, Griezmann was rumoured to be on his way away from Atletico, but chose to extend until 2027. In recent weeks, the French legend has once again been warned of his way out, this time “virtually in agreement with a new club”. Atletico’s sporting director promised supporters in February that this is just speculation. It turns out that there was something more to it than this.
At the end of February, L’Equipe claimed it was 95 percent certain that Griezmann will sign for Orlando City. Griez has previously stated that he wants to end his career in MLS, according to the French newspaper, there were only a few details missing before a deal with Orlando City falls into place. The MLS transfer window closes in the latter part of March, Atletico fans feared Griez would disappear before the end of the season.

Now it turns out Sørltoh’s partner wears the Atletico shirt for the rest of the season, but then it’s over for the club’s top scorer. According to Marca and transfer journalist Romano, the transfer to Orlando City is now in place. The MLS club tried to get the French icon to travel as early as March, but will have to settle for it happening from the summer of 2026.
Sørloth and Antoine Griezmann are two complementary types of players, with the Frenchman often delivering the creative passes that end with Sørloth’s clinical finishing. Last season, the duo was highlighted in the Spanish media as one of the best attacking combinations in La Liga. Then the French/Norwegian duo will have to take advantage of the last few months.
