He started his Formula 1 career at Sauber in 2011 Sergio Perez has revealed that he has been talking to “several” teams about a return to the grid next season.
The 35-year-old Mexican left Red Bull shortly after the season finale in Abu Dhabi in December, just six months after signing a new two-year contract.
There are some very interesting projects out there. I have been contacted by several teams since Abu Dhabi,” Perez said in an exclusive interview with Formula1.com
Difficult season
Perez did not win a single race in 2024 and only finished on the podium four times – his worst season since joining Red Bull in 2021.
“I have been approached by several teams since Abu Dhabi. Now that the season has started, more opportunities will open up in the coming months,” Perez told Formula 1’s website.
“Once I have an overview of all the options, I will make a decision.”
“What is clear to me is that I will only come back if the project makes sense and is something I can enjoy.”
Fall from the top
Perez finished second in the 2023 drivers’ championship behind teammate Max Verstappen, but described last season as “terrible” after going a full season without a win for the first time since 2019.
Perez, who has also driven for Sauber and McLaren, believed his problems were partly due to challenges with Red Bull’s RB20 car.
His replacement, Liam Lawson, was taken out of the cockpit after just two races this year and replaced by Yuki Tsunoda after struggling with the new RB21 model.

Will prove itself
“Especially last year, I didn’t get to show what I’m capable of as a driver,” Perez continued.
“Now people are suddenly starting to understand how difficult this car is to drive.”
Perez stressed that he will only return to F1 if he finds a team where he can compete at the top and develop as a driver.
