The situation started to loosen up for Andreas Schjelderup at Benfica last season. Then José Mourinho joined the Portuguese big club in September. Four months later, the Norwegian player is well on his way out of the club. Perhaps not so strange, when Norway’s national team manager Ståle Solbakken emphasizes that it is urgent to get a new club and playing time to secure a place in the World Cup squad.

It is not entirely certain that Andreas Schjelderup will be allowed to participate in the World Championships as it is not certain that he will be allowed into the United States after receiving a verdict to forward a video he should not have sent. – Donald Trump is known to be tough on crime as long as they are not his close friends, family and can pay for themselves.

It was a bit surprising that Jose Mourinho in tonight’s Champions League match against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium chose to go with Andreas Schjelderup. A game that Benfica lost to a much stronger team.

Andreas Schjelderup played children’s football for Bodø/Glimt. As a 15-year-old, he had already had training stays with Barcelona, Ajax and Liverpool. He was allowed to participate in training with Bodø/Glimt’s A-team, before the corona pandemic put an end to the teenager’s access to the first team.

In 2020, the trip went to Denmark and North Zealand, where Schjelderup quickly became a supporter favorite. In 2023, he signed for Benfica, but got off to a very rough start. Roger Schmidt did not give Schjelderup the opportunity to “play warm” at the Portuguese big club. Schjelderup pushed for a loan last season, and had a brilliant period back in Nordsjælland, where the Danes are still fond of the Norwegian player.

When he returned to Benfica last season, things slowly started to happen. Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported interest in Schjelderup from clubs in Spain, Germany and the Netherlands, but Benfica this summer considered the Norwegian a future star and closed the door to inquiries.

According to transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri, that door is now open. Tavolieri claims that several Italian clubs are interested in a loan move for the 21-year-old, while Belgian giants Club Brugge want more. They have submitted a bid of 11 million euros for a permanent transfer for Schjelderup.
