The last time Joshua Zirkzee scored in the Premier League, we had just started with the Christmas preparations last year. The Dutchman was able to celebrate a very important goal against Real Sociedad in the Europa League, but this is not enough for Ronald Koeman. The Dutch national team manager explains why United’s summer signing is not good enough to wear the orange shirt this time around.
“He’s not in the preliminary squad because I don’t think he’s good enough at the moment,” Koeman begins.
The Dutchman showed scoring form in a United shirt last Thursday, but there is something more fundamental missing from Zirkzee.
-It is especially when he is trying to orient himself in turns or passes that things often go wrong. In principle, form and fitness are always the most important, but it is not always possible. We have a lot of centre-backs, but we are somewhat limited up front. Even then, I still think you have to earn the right to be elected, and I don’t think he deserves it now…,” Ronald Koeman said, according to BBC Sport.
Koeman adds that Zirkzee could play his way to a place next time, but the description of the 23-year-old should be a warning for Manchester United when they need to get the striker cabal up and running before next season.
