We can hope that the desert walk of ex-Manchester United star Anthony Martial when he now signs with the currently best club in Mexico, CF Monterrey. – Things did not go quite smoothly in Greece and an exit has been in the cards for a while, the choice of a new club is surprising, as there were several publishers on the table in both England and Spain. In addition, there was dialogue with a couple of clubs back home in France.
If
you ask United fans what they remember of the French striker, you will probably get a hum and a grin in response. Some believe Martial received too much undeserved criticism, but as one of the club’s highest paid and delivers 90 goals in 317 games, as well as more and longer injury breaks, the Frenchman will definitely not get a place in the Red Devils’ Hall of Fame. But the fact that the 29-year-old is a good businessman, no one can take that away from him.

At Manchester United, the striker and his agent had negotiated a weekly wage of £250,000. When the Frenchman stepped out as a free agent in 2024, he chose AEK Athens on a three-year contract. As the league’s highest paid player by far, with around 3.3 million euros in annual salary.
After only one year in Athens, Anthony Martial is switching clubs again. This time, the 29-year-old makes an unexpected choice.
The striker is ready for Mexican club CF Monterrey. It is a permanent transfer, and Martial has signed a contract until 2027 with an option for a further year. – Martial, for whom CF Monterrey has paid AEK Athens 3.3 million euros, would probably have to take a pay cut to secure the transfer.
Anthony Martial has clearly not attended a course in where to hold hands and comes across as a bit awkward in his first club interview.
“His quality, speed and ability to decide games at key moments will be an asset to the team. Welcome, Anthony,” Rayados writes in a communiqué.
Martial will be the first French player to play for Monterrey. The squad already includes Real Madrid icon Sergio Ramos and former Sevilla player Lucas Ocampos.
Rayados, as the team is called, leads the Mexican league.
