Real Madrid will need to find a temporary replacement for their last five games in La Liga, as they are looking to become the first team since Barcelona in 2019 to defend their league title.

The Brazilian national team has long been linked with Ancelotti, and according to reports, they may appoint him as the new head coach even before the Spanish season is over.

After the disappointing Champions League exit against Arsenal, Ancelotti admitted that he could soon leave Real Madrid:

“It could be this year, or next year when my contract expires… It’s not a problem,” Ancelotti told reporters on Wednesday night.

“But when I’m done here, I’ll always be grateful to this club. Whether it’s tomorrow, in a year or in ten years – the gratitude will be the same. Period.

“We have performed very well in recent seasons, but this year we have had to suffer. Things have not gone as expected, but it happens in the sport. There are no invincible teams.

Ancelotti has won 15 trophies in his two spells as Real Madrid coach, including the Champions League and La Liga double last season.

Xabi Alonso is expected as the successor

Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has long been linked with the job as Ancelotti’s successor. Now, Real Madrid can accelerate their pursuit of the former Merengues midfielder ahead of the 2025/26 season.

There is also talk of a return of Zinedine Zidane, or Jürgen Klopp and Unai Emery.
