Newcastle see Eze as Tonali replacement

It is not entirely certain yet, Newcastle could reportedly lose Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali this summer. The 24-year-old is said to have asked to move on and a return to Italy is wanted. Both Napoli and Juventus are said to want the former AC Milan player. Should Tonali leave St James’ Park, it will leave a vacuum that needs to be filled.

According to Sky, Newcastle have now named Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze, 26, as a transfer target. Newcastle have already held talks with the 26-year-old’s representatives, and the club is said to be willing to pay the player’s £60 million buyout clause. However, this only applies if Tonali leaves the club, Sky emphasizes.

Eze joined Palace from QPR in the summer of 2020 and has since scored 32 goals and made 28 assists in 157 appearances. He has a contract until the summer of 2027.
