Solskjaer sent a fire-breathing Jose Mourinho into the dressing room with a bitter 0-1 home defeat in the city derby earlier in the month. The Special One can be thankful that the coach who cleaned up after him at Manchester United didn’t enter the Süper Lig scene until January. Then Mourinho’s second place this season would have been in jeopardy. On Sunday, Solskjaer once again showed what is to come from Besiktas next season. Now Solskjaer is heading for the goal that gives the club a springboard into the coming season and himself a well-deserved bonus.
With Sunday’s 4-1 win, Besiktas are finally up to third place which gives them a Europa League ticket. When the “Eagle of the North” took over as coach in January, the club was down to 6th place, a good distance from the Europa League ticket. Now Solskjaer does not need money motivation to win games, but Besiktas have made sure that the coach will have an extra nice holiday when 3rd place is secured.

According to the Turkish newspaper Hürriyet, Besiktas have promised Solskjaer he will receive a bonus of 250,000 euros for 3rd place. With a base salary of €1.2 million for this season (€2.4 million next season), this could add up to solid sums on the Istanbul adventure.
Now there are three games left, where Besiktas have their hand in 3rd place and a Europa League ticket. Samsunspor lost the upper hand and are now 1 point behind Besiktas.
That means that Solskjaer and Besiktas themselves control the way to the goal, the previously “impossible” 3rd place – and nice bonus.
