When Alex Ferguson stepped down as manager and left Old Trafford as boss, Manchester United lost the singular capacity that had characterized the Premier League for over two decades. Then came the drought for United supporters. From dominating the top flight and Ferguson’s 27 Manager of the Month awards, David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho came and went without earning the Manager of the Month award. This changed when a smiling Norwegian took over the baton in the 2018/19 season. This week, Ruben Amorim also follows in the footsteps of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

It is a very simple award, but the manager of the month award in competition with the likes of Jürgen Klopp and Pep Guaridola, hangs high. Solskjaer won the award in January 2019, directly after stepping in as a super substitute for Manchester United. Illustratively, this was the first Man Utd manager to win this award in seven years.

On Friday, the award was again sent to Manchester United. Ten Hag received his awards of the month during his two seasons+, but for Ruben Amorim this will be something more than a small “statue”. The Portuguese has been in a Premier League storm since his signing in November 2024, in October the results came.

2-0 against in-form Sunderland, 1-2 win against arch-rivals Liverpool at Anfield, then finished with a 4-2 win against Brighton. Ruben Amorim is named Premier League Manager of the Month, ahead of Mikel Arteta, Unai Emery and Andoni Iraola.

We congratulate, and guess Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends an appreciative nod to the Portuguese.
