It was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who made Maguire Manchester United’s captain in 2020. Since then, Solskjaer has supported the centre-back through the Ten Hag storm, and has never doubted that Maguire is the defensive general and the winner of the match-winning goals the club really needs. On Tuesday, the confirmation comes that gives Solskjaer the right and two thumbs up from the United legend.
Harry Maguire stated – while Ruben Amorim was at Old Trafford – that Solskjaer had been the best coach of his career. Now they both have something to celebrate. On Tuesday, it was confirmed that Maguire, on an expiring contract, has signed an extension with United until 2027 with an option for another season.

“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It’s a responsibility that makes me and my family proud every day. I am delighted to continue my journey at this fantastic club and to continue to play in front of our incredible supporters,” Maguire said.
Two years ago, this was completely unthinkable, with Erik ten Hag working hard to push big Harry out of the club. Harry refused to give up, craned his neck and has been one of United’s most solid players under Amorim and now Carrick.
We’re guessing Maguire will get a nice text message from his favourite coach Solskjaer.
